The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
