The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him – and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
