The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And affirms goodness, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and he belied the finest 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
