He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he fears, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
