۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said: Then bring him (hither) before the people's eyes that they may testify. 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We bestowed upon him ls-haq and Ya qub as a grandson; and each one We made righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
