Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 and ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter among My servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
