a good many of olden times, 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 "We are ruined, 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
