۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob). Each one We made righteous. 72 We appointed them as leaders to guide the people through Our command and sent them revelation to strive for good deeds, worship their Lord, and pay religious tax. Both of them were Our worshipping servants. 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
