Has the story reached thee, of the honoured guests of Abraham? 24 When those [heavenly messengers] came unto him and bade him peace, he answered, "[And upon you be] peace!" - [saying to himself,] "They are strangers." 25 He went quietly to his wife and returned to his guests with a fat, roasted calf. 26 And he set it before them, and said: wherefore eat ye not? 27 Then he conceived a fear of them. They said: Fear not! and gave him tidings of (the birth of) a wise son. 28 Then his wife came forward with a loud voice, she smote her face, and said: "A barren old woman!" 29 They said: "Thus said your Lord. He is indeed all-wise and all-knowing." 30 ۞ He said: "What is then your business, O messengers?" 31 They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals 32 so that we bring down stones of clay upon them 33 Marked by thy Lord for (the destruction of) the wanton. 34 We saved all the faithful in the town. 35 We found in it only one household of true believers -- 36 And We left therein a sign for those who fear the afflictive torment. 37 As (there was) in Moses when We sent him to the Pharaoh with clear authority. 38 But he turned away with his forces and said: A magician or a mad man. 39 So We took him and his hosts, and dumped them into the sea, while he was to be blamed. 40 And in 'A-ad also was a lesson, when We sent against them the barren wind. 41 It spared nothing that it reached, but blew it into broken spreads of rotten ruins. 42 And in Thamood it was said to them: 'Take your enjoyment for awhile' 43 In response they rebelled against their Lord’s command, so the thunderbolt seized them whilst they were watching. 44 Then they could not even stand (on their feet), nor could they help themselves. 45 Before all these We destroyed the people of Noah: they were a wicked people. 46
