So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 He said: "Verily! You are people unknown to me." 62 They said: Nay, we have come to you with that about which they disputed. 63 We bring you the truth, and indeed we are truthful. 64 Leave the town with your family sometime during the night. Walk behind them and let no one turn around. Proceed as you are commanded." 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 He said: 'These are my guests; do not shame me. 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 They replied: 'Have we not forbidden you (the people of) the worlds' 70 Lot exclaimed in exasperation: "If you are bent on doing something, then here are my daughters." 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 Then the mighty Blast caught them at sunrise, 73 And We turned the township upside down and rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced. 76 Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers. 77 And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers; 78 So We exacted retribution from them. They were both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
