Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And cups put in place 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
