He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
