He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive and palm trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
