Thamud denied the messengers 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
