The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then looked he, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
