۞ When the son of Mary was mentioned as an example, you people cried out in protest, saying, 57 and say: "Which is better - our deities or he?" [But] it is only in the spirit of dispute that they put this comparison before thee: yea, they are contentious folk! 58 He ['Iesa (Jesus)] was not more than a slave. We granted Our Favour to him, and We made him an example to the Children of Israel (i.e. his creation without a father). 59 And had We so willed, [O you who worship angels,] We could indeed have made you into angels succeeding one another on earth! 60 He is a sign of the Hour. Have no doubt about it. But follow me. This is a straight path; 61 Let not Satan bar you; he is for you a manifest foe. 62 And when Jesus came with the clear signs he said, 'I have come to you with wisdom, and that I may make clear to you some of that whereon you are at variance; so fear you God and obey you me. 63 Assuredly God is my Lord and your Lord; therefore serve Him; this is a straight path.' 64 But sects from among themselves fell into disagreement: then woe to the wrong-doers, from the Penalty of a Grievous Day! 65 Are they looking for anything except the Hour (to overtake them). It will come upon them suddenly when they are unaware! 66 Friends on that day will be foes one to another, save those who kept their duty (to Allah). 67
