۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 And some of them inclined towards others, mutually questioning. 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 On that day they will all share the torment. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 and said, "Should we give up our idols for the sake of an insane poet". 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 And you will be requited nothing except for what you used to do (evil deeds, sins, and Allah's disobedience which you used to do in this world); 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 Whose provision is predetermined -- 41 Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, 42 In the Gardens of delight, 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 Cups of wine will be presented to them in rounds, from a spring flowing in front of them. 45 Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 Then he will look and see him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]. 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire: 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
