Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
