Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
