The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 then came down close 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
