A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
