The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 stay away from sins 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
