The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned? 1 Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight. 2 Surely We showed him the Right Path, regardless of whether he chooses to be thankful or unthankful (to his Lord). 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 “Indeed we fear from our Lord a day which is extremely bitter, most severe.” 10 So Allah will save them from the evil of that Day and has secured for them radiance and joyfulness, 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and goblets of crystal,- 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 In it they adorn clothes of fine green silk and gold embroidery; and they are given silver bracelets to wear; and their Lord gave them pure wine to drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
