He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
