He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you attend to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
