He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olive and palm trees 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
