The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated. 2 in the nearer part of the land; and, after their vanquishing, they shall be the victors 3 In some few years. Allah's is the command, before and after. And on that day the believers will rejoice. 4 He helps whomever He wants. He is Majestic and All-merciful. 5 [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfil His promise -- but most people do not know this; 6 they only know the outward appearance of the life of this world, and they are neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Have they never thought to themselves that Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is between except with truth, and for a stated term? Yet most people disbelieve that they will ever meet their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land to see how terrible was the end of the people who lived before them. The people who lived before them were stronger than them in might, in tilling, and in developing the earth. Our Messengers came to them with clear miracles. God did not do an injustice to them but they wronged themselves. 9 Therefore evil was the end of those who did evil, for they denied the signs of God and made fun of them. 10
