And indeed We did send Musa (Moses) with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs (inviting them to Allah's Religion of Islam) He said: "Verily, I am a Messenger of the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)." 46 But as soon as he came before them with Our [miraculous] signs, lo! they derided them, 47 We showed them Sign after Sign, each greater than its fellow, and We seized them with Punishment, in order that they might turn (to Us). 48 They said, "Sorcerer, call on your Lord for us, by virtue of His pledge to you: we shall certainly accept guidance," 49 Then when We had removed from them the torment, behold they were breaking their promise. 50 And the Pharaoh said to his people: "O people, is not mine the kingdom of Egypt and these rivers that flow at my feet? Can you still not comprehend? 51 Aye! I am better than this one who is despicable, and well-nigh cannot make himself plain. 52 “So why was he not bestowed with armlets of gold? Or angels should have come with him staying at his side!” 53 So he made his people unsteady, and they obeyed him; surely they were an ungodly people. 54 So when they incurred Our wrath, We exacted retribution from them, and drowned them all, 55 And We made them (a people) of the Past and an Example to later ages. 56
