The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the star when it plunges, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
