The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
