The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
