The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
