The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
