Nay, by the moon, 32 By the night when it withdraweth. 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 a warning to humans, 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 [On the Day of Judgment,] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever [evil] he has wrought 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 Till death overtook us. 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
