The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
