He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fears (Allah), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
