The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
