In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
