The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
