The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And carpets raised. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virginal, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
