And indeed We sent Moosa along with Our signs towards Firaun and his chieftains – he therefore said, “Indeed I am a Noble Messenger of the Lord of the Creation.” 46 But when he came to them with Our signs, lo! they laughed at them. 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 And they said: O wizard! Entreat thy Lord for us by the pact that He hath made with thee. Lo! we verily will walk aright. 49 But when We removed the torment from them, behold! They broke their covenant (that they will believe if We remove the torment for them). 50 And the Pharaoh said to his people: "O people, is not mine the kingdom of Egypt and these rivers that flow at my feet? Can you still not comprehend? 51 Or am I better than this man, who is contemptible and scarcely makes things clear? 52 Why were then no bracelets of gold shed upon him from above, or angels sent down as a retinue with him?" 53 So he incited his people to levity and they obeyed him: surely they were a transgressing people. 54 So when they made Us wrathful, We took revenge from them – We therefore drowned all of them. 55 We made them a precedent, an example for later peoples. 56
