Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And ten nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Join My servants. 29 into My Paradise. 30
