The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
