The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
