Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
