The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 like hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
