The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
