He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 you attend to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage 28 olives, dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
