The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But save him who fears 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
