And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]. 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
